Wrist pain/carpal tunnel syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome has many causes. The wrist is made up of eight bones called the carpal bones and with the ligaments these bones form a tunnel that allows blood vessels and nerves to pass through. Sometimes this tunnel can be narrowed which traps the nerves and results in a tingling feeling, pins and needles and/or numbness into the thumb, fore and middle finger. A shake of the hand often provides relief. Chiropractors can often adjust the wrist bones and joints as well as helping to release the fascia and open up the carpel tunnel giving relief. Quite often when the nerve root coming from the neck down the arm has impingements elsewhere, this can also contribute to pain or symptoms in the wrist and hand. Chiropractors in these cases would also check the neck and shoulder specifically to determine whether there is involvement further up the nerve pathway.
