Gonstead Training & The Gonstead Seminar of Chiropractic
The
Gonstead seminar of Chiropractic is the longest running
Chiropractic seminar in chiropractic. It is the elite
in Gonstead training and is where Doctors and students
alike attend to become successful Gonstead Doctors.
Initially started by Doctor Gonstead, the seminar
is now run by the Cox family from Barrington Illinois.
The seminar initially started back in the 1960's. Doctor Gonstead was working 16 hours a day Monday-Friday and 5 hours every Sunday. He was at his physical capability sometimes seeing over 800 patients a week. If patients couldn't make it in to the clinic he would go to their house once he had finished work. He would finish a 16 hour day and then he and his wife Elvira would travel sometimes hours to go see patients to sick to get in to the clinic. He would try to get a few hours sleep whilst his wife drove. He told the expecting patients not to stay up as he would not arrive until the early hours of the morning. He would arrive and wake them up, treat them and make his way home just in time to start the next day's work.
Gonstead knew there was only one solution, Gonstead's schedule was at the limit of his physical capability, he knew the only solution to meet the public's health needs on the scale the public was demanding, was to build an unparalleled chiropractic treatment facility and staff it with Gonstead trained associates. And so in 1964 Gonstead's third and final clinic was built, a 22,000 sq foot clinic complete with a waiting area for 104 people (often full), laboratory and seminar Rooms and full teaching facilities.
Dr Gonsteads first two associates, Dr. Alex Cox and Dr. Doug Cox joined him as staff doctors in 1964 and 1967 respectively. Having been trained by Dr. Gonstead and working side by side in the clinic with Dr. Gonstead over the years that followed, Dr. Gonstead made the two brothers integral parts of the Gonstead Seminar presentation

Gonstead
was so pleased with the respect, dedication and coherence
of the Cox brothers to his teachings and technique,
that in 1974, he transferred and sold the Gonstead
Seminar of Chiropractic to the Cox brothers. This
"passing" of the Gonstead knowledge, not
only included the teaching of his work through the
Gonstead Seminar, but his faith and confidence in
Dr. Alex and Dr. Doug also included the transfer and
sale of the Gonstead Clinic and motel to the Cox brothers.
Knowing that his teachings and legacy would live on
under the guidance of Drs. Alex and Doug, his lifetime
of work was safe from being altered or changed. Dr.
Gonstead's dedication and service to the patient,
above all else, had been absorbed and passed on to
the Cox brothers, and is still being practiced and
taught by these two masters of the Gonstead system
today, along with their current staff of fellow instructor.
Since
this time Dr Alex's son, John, has now taken over
the day to day running of the seminar. The Seminar
holds approximately 2 seminars every month now all
over the world. As well as seminars in the USA the
team of the 8 finest Gonstead Doctors in the world
travels as far as Europe, Australia, and Japan. There
are two annual seminars in the UK in Bournemouth that
are organized by Dr Stuart Cooper.
